Salad Dressings, the best way to top your salad.

We all need to eat more greens and the two best ways to get them into you are smoothies and salads.
I don’t know about you but the only way I am eating salad everyday is to have a wonderful tasty salad dressing to top it off with.
Salad dressing require a base, usually a fat and an acid to start, then you add layers of flavor. Herbs, spices, peppers, well anything that suits your fancy really. You can use flavored oils & vinegars or even pickle juice! Salad dressings can be so creative!

So for today, I would like to share some of my favorite salad dressings!

Japanese-Style Sesame Dressing

This is a fantastic dressing and definitely one of my favorites.

4 tbsp Mayonnaise

3 tbsp Tahini

3 tbsp Rice vinegar

2 tsp Sugar (optional)

2 tsp Soy sauce

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp Onion powder

½ tsp Fresh or frozen ginger grated

Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Avocado & Lime Dressing

1 beautiful avocado
½ cup olive oil
2 tbsp lime juice
½ cup fresh oj
1 green onion
¼ tsp salt
Pepper to taste

Peel and pit avocado, Scoop out flesh and add to blender. Chop green onion, add to blender. Add all other ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
If you would like a little heat with this dressing, go ahead and add a chilli or some sriracha.

Creamy Tahini Dream

1/2 cup fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup tahini

1 clove garlic

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt
water for desired consistency

Peel and smash the garlic with the side of your knife. Allow the garlic to sit for a few minutes. This allows the compounds in the garlic to blend and create acillin, a powerful healing compound.
Juice the lemon.
Put all of the ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth and creamy. Add water to thin out, if desired.
This dressing will thicken in the fridge.

There you have it! Three gorgeous dressings for you to try out on your salads. Please share with me your favorites!

Water the elixir of Life!

You know how important water is. You know you are suppose to get your 8 glasses a day. After all water helps in digestion,it promotes elimination, aids in the absorption and transportation of nutrients, circulation, creation of saliva, and maintenance of body temperature. And it is one of the most important ingredients in a detox or cleanse.

So how do you know if you are drinking enough water? First,  pay attention to how much you are drinking and what you are drinking throughout the day. Second, your urine is a great indicator. If it is dark in colour you need more water. Constant dehydration can lead to chronic dehydration and that can lead to migraines, lack of energy, painful joints and insomnia.

Did you also know that water is also essential for sleep? Water is important in the creation of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Biologists consider ATP to be the energy currency of life. ATP is found in cytoplasm and nucleoplasm of every cell. ATP is a high-energy molecule. ATP stores the energy we need to do just about everything, including sleeping. A low water environment means inadequate energy production and less efficient metabolism.

So how do you ensure you get 8 glasses a day, when you really don’t enjoy drinking water? Naturally flavored waters like mint with lemon or watermelon and jalapeno, fresh juices with no added sugar or salt, (see our recipe page for some ideas) and veggies and fruit are your best choices. All fruits are high in water content and cucumbers, celery, radishes and tomatoes are just a few of the vegetables that have a higher water content. Also decaffeinated organic teas are a great choice to keep you hydrated and healthy!!

So be sure to drink up and enjoy!
